Contemplate. Savour. Pass on.
I paint civilisations.
I look for what makes them rise, flourish, transform and sometimes vanish. I travel through their cities, their ruins and their works; I set archaeological traces against historians’ accounts. From this research come paintings that question what societies pass on to those who follow.
Contemplate
The passing of time fascinates me. Whether humans are present or not, I imagine those who came before us. Those who thought, built, adorned.
I think of the silent generations who, stone after stone, offered the centuries the contours of a beautiful, liveable city.
Savour
Marvelling since childhood at the beauty of the world, I travel sketchbook in hand. My mind lingers on what we too often forget: the same humans, with the same failings, have lived in very different worlds.
I contemplate cities the way one would read an ancient poem — slowly, with respect.
Pass on
My works are fragments of history. They speak of slowness, of transmission, of the beauty born of accumulation.
They are also tributes to culture, to the sacred, to architecture as a mirror of the collective soul.
